RMEL Foundation Awards Record 47 Scholarships

For the 2019-2020 academic year, the RMEL Foundation has awarded scholarships to 47 deserving students pursuing careers in the electric energy industry. With students applying from across the United States and pursuing many worthwhile degrees and careers in the electric energy industry, it was very difficult for the committee to select the recipients out of such a high caliber pool of applicants.

RMEL Members have access to the RMEL Foundation’s Electric Energy Career Jump Start Directory, which is a vetted list of scholarship applicants companies can use in their search for interns and job candidates. If you’d like a copy of the list, contact info@rmel.org.

Recipients were selected based upon their goals for their future in the industry, motivation, academic achievements and service to their community and school.

The winner of the 2019 Burns & McDonnell Scholarship is Connie Wentworth, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Missouri University of Science & Technology (Returning Recipient).

The winner of the 2019 Kiewit Scholarship is Cierra Cowley, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Kansas State University (Repeat Recipient).

The winner of the 2019 Lana and Jim Malone Scholarship is Yasser Dbeis, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University (Returning Recipient).        

The winner of the 2019 Mitsubishi Hitachi named scholarship is Haley Ripps, majoring in Industrial Distribution at Texas A&M University.          

The winner of the 2019 Platte River Power Authority Roy J. Rohla Memorial Scholarship is Benjamin Beauvais, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Colorado State University.

The winner of the 2019 Power Engineers Named Scholarship is Ryan Miller, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Montana State University, Bozeman (Returning Recipient).

The winners of the 2019 South Dakota School of Mines Alumni Scholarship are Andrew Klingaman, majoring in Electrical Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines & Technoloyg and Christopher Mentele, majoring in Electrical Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.

The winners of the 2019 SRP Scholarship is Matthew Kosednar, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Arizona State University (Returning Recipient).

The winner of the 2019 TIC Power Named Scholarship is Kaitlyn Butler, majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Kansas State University.

The winners of the 2019 Tucson Electric Power/UNS Energy Scholarships are Alejandro Hidalgo, majoring in Pre-Engineering at Pima Community College, and Mike Snyder, majoring in Engineering at University of Arizona.

The winner of the 2019 Ulteig Engineers Inc. Scholarship is Rebecca Franzen, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University.

The winner of the 2019 Zachry Group Scholarship is Brittany Nelson, majoring in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University.

The RMEL Foundation appreciates all of the corporate and individual support of the Foundation’s mission to promote the power industry.  We have a special group of individuals, Friends of RMEL.”. This group of individuals who gave even more to the Foundation after competitive bidding at the end of the Silent Auction at the 2018 Fall Convention. The 2019 Friends of RMEL Named Scholarship recipients are Jason Allen, majoring in High Voltage Lineman at Oklahoma St. University Inst. of Tech, Zachary Churchwell, majoring in Electrical Engineering at the University of Wyoming (Returning Recipient) and Maria Salzetti, majoring in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah.

Long-time RMEL Foundation Board Member Mike Jones, SRP, is leaving the Board in 2019. Mike has been instrumental in growing the RMEL Foundation Scholarship Program, and RMEL honored Mike with a scholarship in his name. The 2019 Mike Jones RMEL Scholarship was awarded to Dario DeDonato, majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Northern Arizona University.

Over the past 19 years the Foundation has awarded 366 scholarships totaling $851,250.  The RMEL Foundation is proud to award funding to these deserving students for continued education in the electric energy industry. The scholarship donations have been established through individual and corporate donations, as well as contributions from the Fall Convention Auction, Spring Conference Golf Outing and the RMEL Foundation Golf Tournament.
